Riley Willis sits behind his keyboard 30 hours a week. When he got off on Saturday, he did it through all his shifts without talking to the soul.
Willis is a supplier of AI and works in data annotation through the company called Dataannotation.Tech. He says his work is fully distant and looks asynchronous – without a set boss, without contact with his co -workers and without everyday meetings.
“It’s ideal for introvert,” Business Insider said.
Willis said his days consist of “checking the facts” of the output of different AI models, but only because of what he decides to take over. He says Dataannotation.Tech offers a number of contractual workers’ projects to choose from, including AI teaching to improve their creative writing and coding skills.
“You literally go through and mark information based on a number of criteria that different projects,” Willis said. “I personally work on a lot of billing things, just because I find that the payment ratio to effort is nice. So there are a lot of fact centers that make sure the models are not lying or hallucination information. ”
Since companies continue to pressure to improve their AI models, there has been a corresponding increase in demand for data anotors and labels. Field workers spend their time either “Data Genect for training and labeling for training,” Willis said, performing tasks in programming, writing and research.
Willis said he first pulled to work as he tried to move out of his parents’ house and wanted to avoid the role in retail.
“I wanted a job that was not a customer service or nothing like that,” he said. “I’ve been doing a distant school, so I was a little happy with the distant environment.”
When he was on board for the first time, Willis said he earned 20 years, but now a network of about $ 25. The hourly rates differ depending on the projects that the workers accept, and Willis said they saw them reaching up to $ 30.
Despite the fact that Willis, which is chasing a bachelor’s program in computer science through the online program University of Florida, he said he could fully cover his teaching and renting in Raleigh in North Carolina.
“I can pay and I can pay my way through college,” Willis said. “It’s not as if I finally had a lot of money, especially if I don’t work for 40 hours full -time, but I have enough where I can live in general.”
Willis said that his modest lifestyle is what allows him to stretch his reward, adding that “he could not support” if he lives alone.
“I live poor, honestly,” he said. “If I had some extravagant lifestyle – if I went out, you know, bars and everhything, and I spent a lot online – I probably couldn’t do that. But I just went through my day, finished it. ”
DES work has its disadvantages. Willis said that the repeating nature of the tasks could be “anesthetic”. And unlike a full -time position, Willis gets only when he sits on his computer and actively works on tasks.
“Even in a high range, I feel you know, there are paid lunch breaks, similar things,” he said. “Now, you know, you spend with someone for a second or two talking to someone, but you’re still on the lessons when you pay for it. You really don’t get paid with that unless you do a job. ”
Willis said that he sometimes spends “six or seven hours” research, but is paid only for “five hours of real work” due to the need to occasionally suspend. Long -term – Willis said that the advantages of work predominate beyond disadvantages.
“Personally, I say that the balance between working and private life is nice, in the sense that he is of course distant and I can work whenever I want,” he said. “I can work at 1 o’clock in the morning if I really feel it.”
For someone looking for a side noise that could turn to its full -time role, Willis says to be overall fit.
“I think it would be really, really good for someone who has real work and does it, just like two hours a day,” he said. “I think that’s really what this kind of setting shines. If you have a new full -time job and you add only an hour, an hour and a half, a day, you earn another $ 25 to $ 50, if you have nothing else, is definitely gold. ”
