Shaquille O’Neal on franchising, investing and fighting nerves Businessman

Shaquille O’Neal is excessively in all directions. His biography is long than his body and is over seven feet tall. He won four NBA championship rings. It’s Cohost Inside the NBA, A show that won 21 Emmys. He is a judge GrindPlayground for business students. He owns Gazillion franchises and does a lot of other things.

I was excited that I had it on a recent episode of how the success you can listen to here or read the shortened transcription below. Shaq is a fun, inspiring and extremely generous – but don’t make a mistake if he is happy with your attitude, will give you a hand.

Dan Bova: Shaq, you’re a busy guy. Not just sitting and relaxing.
Shaquille O’Neal: You grow up under the guidance of a military exercise sergeant, you always learn to stay concentrated and just continue to work and others. Another one, who is resting on my laurels, or, as you know, will amaze my award. I work hard, get a hug and then just, you know, continues to do the next thing.

At the “The Grind” exhibition, you gave many contestants the same advice: the gift is nervous when you talk about money. It’s easy to say “don’t be nervous”, but it’s hard to do.
Whenever I try to use OPM (other people’s money) to build other companies – especially in the technology space – I talk to technical experts, so I know what I’m talking about. If you know his outputs and his outputs, you are not nervous. I try to make my due diligence and really understand what I ask for. You don’t want to go to a meeting with Jeff Bezos and just ask $ 100 million. You want Jeff to know and understand exactly what you are doing, and then he can say, “Okay, Shaq, I believe in what you believe in. I like to investor in your company. ”

The way you read that you grew up was not so excited that you are much higher than everyone around you. Any advice you could give about comfort first?
I’m a product of my environment. I wasn’t a comfortable unit, I saw another high player of NBA named Magic Johnson. I think he smiled and he dribbled and everyone loves him. I saw the benefits he had, and I was glad, “You know what? I like the tall now. ” Initially, when you are the highest child at school and everyone looks at you, it’s unpleasant. But around 14 years, when I started to come to my basketball body, then I just forgot it. One of the positives for me is that I treated as an adult soon. I was 17 and they thought I was 23, it was the best. Now I can’t say it, but I look good for 50.

You have been part of the new company launches such as campus, but you are also really big in franchising. What attracted you to start your own thing from scratch?
I call it OP – ownership and partnership. You know, I don’t drive a franchise, but you connect with people who intelligent than you. It is ownership and to be members of a team with brands that are very, very successful. And when it comes to campus, education is so important to me. I receive a master’s degree in liberal art, but I want to be a sports psychologist.

Sports psychology, I imagine that many young NBA players will ask you for advice. Did that lead you to watch it?
It is so hard to believe that a person who has never been in pressure situations can tell me how to handle pressure. Athletes know I understand. And I come with academic data in combination with sports facilities? If you put together these two, I think it’s a very strong part. I have not seen any sports psychologists who won the championship. The road had a lot of pressure, so I want to be the first and only.

You were a great leader in court. You played for six teams. What is the day Shaq first in the dressing room?
It’s like watching any prison movie. One day you have to let them know who Badass is. The only time I didn’t do it was when I was supposed to play with LeBron because he was under control. For every other dressing room I go to, you know I’m in charge. And if you find Verballly on my travels, I’ll have to put these hands on you. And how long you have a lot of players. I’m not saying who, but it’s my way or highway. And if you don’t like it, then you can deal with it. You have to let them know before all: “Hi man, shoot the ball again and I will hit you right in the face.” And then some descend and shoot it? You can hit him in the face. Once they know you are serious, you will get control.

Years ago we will personally talk to you and go through shopping centers in Florida. And it was amazing to see how people respond to you and how much time you give people.
I like to go to some of my favorite places such as Best Buy or Wal-Mart and ear noise. Do you know what that means? Ear noise means listening to people’s interviews. So I was in Walmart and I saw this little girl and her mom. So the girl went, “Mom, I want it, I want it,” and I saw my mom trying to do his best to get what she could afford. So everything a little girl looked at was just struggling, and then I just swallowed it. So when my mom is to pay for her stuff, I will give her a truck full of things. I was like “You’re going here. She likes, “No, I can’t take it.” I was glad, “I’m sorry to be paid for it, you have to.” Then I told a little girl, I said, “A little child, never take things from strangers.”

Not everyone who has means doing such things.
My mother gave me the greatest advice ever. And it’s so simple. There’s nothing that is nice. I am who I am. You know who I am, but I don’t always have to throw it in my face, right? Just be nice. If you are nice, I’m nice. We live in a crazy world where we need a lot of nothingness.
